The Doctor

A doctor entered the hospital in hurry after being called in for an urgent surgery. He answered the call ASAP, changed his clothes and went directly to the surgery block.

He found the boy’s father going and coming in the hall waiting for the doctor. Once seeing him, the dad yelled:
“Why did you take all this time to come? Don’t you know that my son’s life is in danger? Don’t you have the sense of responsibility?”
The doctor smiled and said, “I am sorry, I wasn’t in the hospital and I came as fast as I could after receiving the call…… And now, I wish you’d calm down so that I can do my work”
“Calm down? What if your son was in this room right now, would you calm down? If your own son dies now what will you do?” said the father angrily
The doctor smiled again and replied: “I will say what Job said in the Holy Bible, “From dust we came and to dust we return, blessed be the name of the Lord. Doctors cannot prolong lives. Go and intercede for your son, we will do our best by God’s grace”

Christianity And Qumran Scrolls

Found inadvertently in 1947, the Dead Sea Scrolls are regarded by many as the most important archaeological find of the twentieth century.

Mystery and intrigue surrounded their acquisition and there are many accounts of their subsequent ‘wanderings’ as they continued to change hands after their discovery.

While many of the manuscripts have suffered the ravages of time the ancient people who hid the scrolls in the caves sealed some of them in clay jars, often wrapped in linen covers to help preserve them. The skins of most of the Dead Sea Scrolls are leather or parchment, light brown or yellowish in colour. Read more »

Does Saving Faith Come From Us Or From God?

Over the last century there has been a great change in the way many Christians view saving faith. It is becoming increasingly more common to believe that the salvation of any given person is left up to themselves and their own choice to believe in Jesus Christ. This is not historical, however, and neither is it taught in the pages of scripture. Instead the Bible teaches very clearly that mankind is dead in sin, and saving faith is a gift given by God to those whom he chooses.
It states quite plainly in the book of Ephesians chapter 2 verses 8 and 9: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast.” Here we read clearly that the faith with which we are saved through is not from ourselves, but instead it is a gift from God. Those who teach that men contain within themselves the ability to have true saving faith are essentially teaching that men can save themselves. Read more »

Youth Ministries All Around the World Have a Tough Job to Do, But It’s Far From Impossible

Youth Ministries All Around the World Have a Tough Job to Do, But It’s Far From Impossible

I wrote this article to help all youth leaders to run effective youth ministries to the honor and glory of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Are you ready to get into it?

Grab a pen and paper quick and let’s get into it shall we?

1. Keeping and Maintaining interest
You don’t have to talk very long to a Sunday school teacher to discover that many young people nowadays have what many people call a short attention span. I however have seen it, and it’s not that there’s a short attention span with our youth today, but its that young people, are just that- young. And they do not want to have the Gospel preached to them in the old way. Read more »

The Anonymous Woman Who Changed the Jungle — and the Lives of Many Prisoners of War

The Japanese captured Ernest Gordon when he was 24. They sent him to a prison camp near the River Kwai, where he, along with every other prisoner there, was expected to die. He was given just enough food to keep him alive and he was forced to work in slave labor on the notorious “Railroad of Death.” However, thanks in part to the efforts of unknown missionaries, Gordon survived to tell his story.
While working on the railroad, the prisoners often came in contact with many of the people living in nearby villages. Most of them turned their noses up at the prisoners. Even the Buddhist priests ignored their plight.
“But once,” says Gordon in his book To End All Wars, “we came to a village where we received a treatment so different that it astonished us. There was mercy in the eyes of those who rushed to the roadside to watch us go by. Before we had reached the end of their settlement, they were back laden with cakes, bananas, eggs, medicines, and money, which they thrust into our hands. Read more »

Why am I here?

Often we can go through life living one day at a time without really going through any more than the normal demands of everyday living. Getting up each morning, eating breakfast, going to work and looking forward to the weekend when we can spend time with our families. Every once in a while we are thrown a curve ball when sickness grabs us and we have to work in a doctors appointment. Nothing too earth scattering, just something that takes medicine to help cure the ailment quicker.

Just the same, endless routine; sometimes it seems that the days and weeks are passing by quickly, while at other times they crawl. Regardless of how your life is progressing, at this very moment you must consider the question ‘why am I here’ in the first place. Read more »

The kiss that shook the world

What can make a kiss so sensational, that it is still talked about and discussed generations later, and even heatedly debated a couple thousand of years later? It makes you wonder, that must have been some kiss! and it
really was.

The kiss in question was between Jesus and his now infamous disciple Judas Iscariot, whom as you may recall, signaled to the Roman Soldiers, whom Jesus was, by kissing Jesus on the cheek; in the Garden of Gethsemane. This single act, so innocent in and of itself, has proven to be one of the most remembered and controversial kisses in all written human history, ever! and it involved two men at that; but before you draw any conclusions, it involved much more important and deeper issues of ethics and principles that anyone can relate to. It was a kiss to remember, simply because this kiss signified and involved issues of betrayal, love and trust between men that bonded as companions and fraternal brothers, and shock, that someone so close to you, could somehow become your own undoing. A trip to the store and a little light

The other night my wife and I made a late mad dash to the Columbia Target on Route 175. Something about an expiring coupon that was about to self-destruct if we didn’t use it before 10pm tonight.
So anyway, as we are making our way to the car my wife remarks that it seemed unusually dark in our parking area tonight. I responded with a typical grunt (watching too many Tool Time re-runs I guess) and off we went to Target.

Upon returning ($70 poorer despite having “saved” lots of money) I observed that the light post on our corner was not working, hence the unusually dark parking area. You see, I also watch a lot of Monk and Columbo so I have detective skills a plenty.

Of course, out of pure manly instinct, I walk over to “fix” the light. After a detailed evaluation of the situation, which took all of ten seconds, I decided the proper “fix” would be hitting the lamp post as hard as I could with the side of my fist (again, I refer you to Tool Time comment above).

Much to my surprise, the light actually came on, sparking a rare profound thought in my mind… Read more »
